RedRover offers an online self-paced course through Humane Society University. The title of this course is "Humane Literacy: Promoting Empathy, Critical Thinking and Language Skills in the Classroom." The course is a three-week course with five hours of course work. Participants work at their own pace to accomplish the required tasks within the three-week time period. The next session begins on May 25. The Humane Literacy course is similar to the in-person volunteer training workshops that RedRover offers to community members and would-be volunteers except this course is taught online and participants are not considered RedRover Readers volunteers after completion. Participants learn how to implement the question strategies and discussion techniques used in the RedRover Readers curriculum. There is a $55 registration fee to attend this training.

This course is open now open to all community members. Priority registration is given to certified teachers.  After taking the course, participants gain access to the RedRover Readers curriculum. Teachers can then implement the curriculum in their own classrooms and humane educators may implement the curriculum under their own organization to encourage empathy and compassion through critical thinking, discussions and reflection activities.
