Bequests are the most common types of planned gifts RedRover receives. Bequests are simple to implement and easy to change. You maintain the use, benefit, enjoyment, and control of your assets for as long as you need them, for as long as you live.
You can include a bequest provision in your will or living trust that specifies an amount or percentage of your estate that you wish for RedRover to receive.
- It does not affect you financially during your lifetime.
- You may make adjustments to your will or trust if circumstances change.
- Your loved ones will not be overlooked because you can specify the amount given to each party.
- A charitable bequest or trust distribution is deductible for federal estate tax purposes. There is no limit on the deduction your estate can claim. The gift may also be exempt from state inheritance taxes.
How to set up a simple Last Will and Testament
RedRover has partnered with LawDepot, an online publisher of do-it-yourself legal documents to help donors who want to leave a legacy donation using a Last Will and Testament. With LawDepot, you can leave a planned gift to RedRover under the Specific Gifts tab within the Last Will questionnaire.
- Under charity name, use United Animal Nations dba RedRover and under charitable registration number, use 68-0124097.
- For those who wish to leave a legacy gift, but who already have a Last Will, you can use a Gift Deed instead.
*As an affiliate of LawDepot, RedRover will receive 30% of the purchase price for each legal document and LawDepot membership sold.
The following examples are possible ways you may set up your bequest if you choose to do it yourself:
I give and bequeath to United Animal Nations d.b.a. RedRover, a nonprofit corporation located in Sacramento, California (tax ID number 68-0124097), the sum of ($______) to be used by its Board of Directors as deemed advisable within its corporation powers.
Testamentary residuary clause:
All the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, bit real and personal, I give, devise and bequeath to United Animal Nations d.b.a. RedRover (tax ID number 68-0124097), a nonprofit corporation, located in Sacramento, CA, to be used by its Board of Directors as deemed advisable within its corporation powers.
Contingent interest clause:
I give and bequeath to (name of person) the sum of ________(spell out)_____dollars ($______) in the event that he/she shall survive me. Should said (name the person) predecease me, I give and bequeath said sum to United Animal Nations d.b.a. RedRover (tax ID number 68-0124097), a nonprofit corporation, located in Sacramento, California, to be used by its Board of Directors as deemed advisable within its corporation powers.
In most states, a will must go through a probate process that can often be expensive and time consuming. By creating a revocable living trust, you can avoid probate while naming RedRover as a beneficiary of the trust, much as you would by making a bequest in a will.
Here is some sample bequest language that you might use in your will or living trust:
I give, devise, and bequeath to United Animal Nations, d.b.a. RedRover, Sacramento, California, the sum of $________ for its general purposes.
In the event that ________ predeceases me, I give, devise, and bequeath his/her bequest or share to United Animal Nations d.b.a. RedRover, Sacramento, California, to be used for its general purposes.
